Hi climateers,
I've just noticed that my emails haven't been getting around to everyone,
but that should now be fixed. Sorry if you've been out of the loop.
This email is for those people who are thinking about going to the Camp for
Climate Action (July 10-15) or the Students of Sustainability conference
(July 5-9). Both of these major events on the climate activist calendar are
in Newcastle but there are crews of people heading up at various times from
Canberra if you require transport. If you haven't yet heard about these
events, or haven't made up your mind yet on whether you should go, check out
these websites:
Camp for Climate Action - www.climatecamp.org.au
Students of Sustainability 2008 - www.studentsofsustainability.org
If you have decided that one, or both, of these events are for you (and they
really are a great opportunity to learn and train up in climate activism, as
well as put it into practice), then please read on.
Accommodation at the conference and camp will be in tents (although
alternatively you could arrange to stay in a hotel/hostel in town if camping
isn't your thing). While some things will be organised for campers from the
Newcastle end, campers will need to bring some things themselves, and that
includes tents or swags (see the Climate Camp website for a list of things
to pack).
If you want to come to the conference or camp but do not have a tent, or
have a tent but have extra spaces in it (it would be much appreciated),
please email me so that I can connect those people who need a tent space
with those who have them. Also, please include in your email what nights you
will be camping on, and a contact phone number.
There are a number of ways you can get to Newcastle, including via bus to
Sydney (Murrays or Greyhound) and then a train to Newcastle (Cityrail), but
carpooling is the most convenient (also, Brindabella Airlines flies direct
to Newcastle but air travel isn't exactly the cheapest or the most carbon
neutral way of getting there). If you need transport, or if you have a car
with any extra space in it for passengers, please email me as well - so that
I make sure that everyone from Canberra is able to make it up there. Again
make sure to include what dates and times you will need to be heading off
and heading back, plus a contact phone number.
Lastly, when you get to the camp we'll try to make sure we camp together in
the same Neighbourhood so that everyone gets to meet the other people
involved in the campaign in Canberra.
Feel free to contact me with any other questions you have.
Yours in saving the planet,
Leigh.
