Public lectures

Imagining the Real Conference

***Some things you can do***

*1. Get lots of people to 'Imagining the Real: Life on a Greenhouse
Earth'<http://www.anu.edu.au/emeritus/events/docs/MCH_GREENHOUSE_CONFERENCE_FLYER.pdf>
*, a conference on climate change at ANU on 11-12 June: we have a heap of
conference programmes to put up anywhere the ACT, so if you can put some up
near where you live, contact me.

* 2. Find speakers for public lectures*
We are running a series of public lectures aimed at educating about climate
change solutions. We've had a couple lately. It would be good to keep them
regularish so people expect them to be on, and we keep the issue at the
front of people's minds.

To those of you were going to do this, how's it going? If you find anyone,
tell me and I'll give you the poster template and help organise it if you
want, or get someone else to organise the rest if you're too busy.

*** Some interesting things to know ***

I met with John Sullivan from ANUGreen to discuss figures for ANU's energy
use and so on. Some relevant things he said:
- Solar production on campus is a long way from being economically feasible.
It's much easier to buy green power or offsets.
- ANU is not currently limited in its green power purchasing by any
foreseeable lack of green power available
- There's very spatially and temporally specific energy use data available
- There's been research done at ANU on schemes to allow students to choose
to offset or buy green power, and offsetting for transport, which we can
follow up.

We can discuss the implications for what we do at the coming meeting.
