Dear listmembers,
Somebody may be able to help Jacqui with the following request from a
paleo-perspective:
******
Hi, I am an Honours student in the School of Anthropology, Geography
and Environmental Studies at the University of Melbourne where I am
investigating the potential geomorphic effects that low flows have on
stream channels. I am currently interested in establishing whether a
low flow channel, or the area occupied by water during low
streamflow, can be distinguished as a separate feature to the main
stream channel (for example, by particular morphological features,
such as the presence of alternating bars or longitudinal berms,
and/or by the limit of terrestrial vegetation on the banks).
Due to the paucity of literature related to this subject, I am
interested in gaining the viewpoints of those who have some
experience in working on and around rivers. I would greatly
appreciate it if you could spare a few moments of your time to answer
some simple questions that would help me to further develop the
concept of a low flow channel.
In general terms,
- Do you recognize a feature that enables a low flow channel to be
distinguished from the main stream channel?
- If so, what processes do you think contributed to its formation?
- Can you direct me to any literature that may be relevant?
Thank-you for your time. I will send out over geomorphlist a copy of
the collated responses for your information.
Regards,
Jacqui Norris. < jacquelinenorris at hotmail.com >
