Conference theme -
The main theme is the paleoenvironment and the contemporary environment of
the Asia-Pacific region covered by the Pole-Equator-Pole (PEP) II transect
extending from the Russian Pacific region down to Antarctica. Special focus
on long Quaternary records particularly during glacial cycles.

Friday 2nd November, 2001-Departure
Keynote speaker: 30 minutes presentation + 10 minutes discussion
Oral presentation: 15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes discussion; two
35-mm slide projectors, one overhead projector and a data projector will be
available. Note that only selected papers will be presented orally.
Poster display: Two poster boards of 1 m (width) x 2 m (height) are
available. Authors of papers selected for oral presentation are also
encouraged to bring posters for display in order to facilitate discussion.
Authors of poster papers may give a 5-minute presentation to highlight
their key results during the poster session.
Abstract & paper submission-
Abstract in English not exceeding one A4 page should be prepared for
submission. Although it is still undecided where the papers are to be
published, they should be prepared in the same format as the journal
Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology.
Accommodation-
Participants will either be housed in the university guesthouse or nearby
hotels. Costs including breakfast are in the region of HK$250-300 based on
double room occupancy. Please indicate your preference in the reply slip.
Note that in some overseas countries economical airfare accommodation
packages may be available. Please check with travel agents prior to booking
your accommodation with us. The Century Harbour Hotel located in the
Western District of Hong Kong Island is 5-10 minutes walk away from the
university campus. Many convenient forms of public transport to the
university campus are available from other parts of Hong Kong.
Registration-
No registration fees will be charged to senior authors contributing oral
and/or poster papers. All other participants will be charged HK$600 if
registered by 1st September 2001 and HK$700 if registered after 1st
September 2001.
Deadlines-
Submission of abstracts 1st July, 2001
Notification of acceptance 1st August, 2001
Submission of manuscript 1st October, 2001
Publication of papers June 2002
