The following job may sound a bit odd, but in our view it might involve 
someone familiar (and competent) with physical data on environmental change 
who would be interested in working on correlations with social data on 
human change.  The field is genuinely wide open, though it can't be used to 
cover for pure data gathering, either physical or historical.

ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORIAN/HISTORICAL ECOLOGIST

The School's Resource Management in Asia-Pacific Program is looking for an 
environmental historian or environmental ecologist to join a team of social 
and natural scientists working on resource management issues in the 
Asia-Pacific region.  You will have a strong record of research on 
historical transformations in the relationship between human communities 
and local ecosystems within the Asia-Pacific region, and a capacity to 
apply such expertise to the analysis of contemporary resource management 
issues within the region.  You will hold your appointment jointly in the 
Resource Management in Asia-Pacific Program and either the Division of 
Pacific and Asian History or the Department of Archaeology and Natural 
History.  Applications for fractional (half-time) appointment will be 
considered.


Appointment:  Fixed term contract for up to 3 years at Level A and 3 to 5 
years at Levels B or C.

Remuneration: Postdoctoral Fellow:  Salary package in the range 
$42,774-$57,174pa. (The salary package for a successful applicant holding a 
PhD will be not less than $53,429pa). Research Fellow: Salary package in 
the range $60,056-$70,857pa.  Fellow: Salary package in the range 
$73,016-$83,819pa.  (Salary packages include salary and generous 
superannuation provisions.  In addition there are opportunities for 
external earnings and some scope for negotiated arrangements within 
University policy.)
