World Summit on Sustainable Development

The Commonwealth Government is continuing its preparations for Australia's participation in the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD). An information paper has been prepared to assist in explaining the breadth and context of the WSSD and
Australia's current position as well as to update stakeholders on the process thus far. Public involvement will be of ongoing value in Australia's preparations for the WSSD.

Environment Australia will be conducting a second round of public consultations in all capital cities to offer an opportunity for you to express your views directly to Commonwealth officials on issues that are arising as important in the WSSD process, to
exchange views with other stakeholders and to clarify any queries you might have on the WSSD.

These public meetings will be held on the following dates:
Adelaide * 15 April 2002
Perth * 16 April 2002
Darwin * 18 April 2002
Brisbane * 22 April 2002
Sydney * 23 April 2002
Melbourne * 1 May 2002
Hobart * 2 May 2002
Canberra * 3 May 2002

To book for the meetings please call 02 6274 2389. Bookings are essential and details of time and
venue will be provided upon registration. Regular updates and information on the second round of public forums will be sent directly to our SSD contacts. If you have not received these updates before and are not on our contact list you ay register by
emailing wssd at ea.gov.au. Details of the public forums will also be publicly adertised in the Weekend Australian.
