Subject: Tenure-track position in Paleoclimatology

The Department of Geosciences at Oregon State University invites
applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Paleoclimatology.
For full consideration, candidates should apply by September 15, 2002 and
the successful applicant's availability will determine the start date. We
seek a colleague whose research uses quantitative studies to address
mechanisms of climate change across a range of time and spatial scales.
This position will strengthen a research focal area for the department,
composed of Geology and Geography Programs, and complement the efforts of
OSU faculty working on a campus-wide research theme highlighting
Atmosphere, Ocean and Earth Systems. The successful candidate will
conduct a vigorous, externally funded research program and teach at the
undergraduate and graduate level in the Geosciences Department with an
approximate distribution of effort at 50% research, 40% instruction, and
10% service. A Ph.D. is required at the time of hire. Geosciences at
Oregon State University has a rich heritage of research and active
collaboration with other units on campus including oceanic and atmospheric
science, forestry, agriculture, science, and civil engineering. This
position is funded through education and general funds. Salary is
competitive, and benefits package includes several options for
health/dental/life insurance, retirement, as well as a new program of
reduced tuition for dependents (some restrictions apply).

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in geography or geology with an emphasis in
paleoclimatology, or a closely related field, a commitment to teaching
excellence, and an active research agenda demonstrating the potential for
outstanding scholarship. The successful applicant must be committed to
educational equity in a multicultural setting.
