Subject:
A postdoctoral appointment is available at Oregon State University's
Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon. The research focuses
on the study of long-term growth dynamics of northeast Pacific
rockfishes, addressing analysis of growth increments of otoliths in
long-lived species of Sebastes. Analyses of annual rings on otoliths
("earstones"), analogous to tree rings, will be used to develop index
time series. Research will include otolith preparation and evaluation
as well as analysis of existing and new time series relative to
variability in ocean conditions.
We seek a candidate with a Ph.D. in Natural or Physical Science,
Ecology, Marine Science, or related disciplines with experience in
quantitative analysis, particularly time series analysis and interest in
relating physical and biological time series.
For an example of past research on this topic, see Boehlert, G.W. et al.
1989. Longterm cycles of growth of Sebastes in the Northeast Pacific
Ocean. Fishery Bulletin, U.S.. 87 : 791-806.
