-------- with apologies for cross posting --------

A postdoctoral research fellowship is available within the Research Group Palynology and Paleo/Actuo-ecology, Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This post is being funded within the ACCROTELM
Project (Abrupt Climate Changes Recorded Over The European Land Mass: multi-proxy records of Late-Holocene climate variability in Europe).

The principal aim of the ACCROTELM Project is to generate high-resolution proxy climate records from an array of European peat deposits to investigate both temporal and spatial variability in European climate over the last 4,500 years. The ACCROTELM
Project is funded under the EU 5th Framework Programme and includes collaboration of eleven laboratories across Europe. The project will be co-ordinated from the University of Gloucestershire.

The postdoctoral research fellow based in Amsterdam will be responsible for the study of cores from England and Denmark. This will include fieldwork, macrofossil analysis, humification analysis, LOI, study of testate amoebae, analysis of pollen and other
palynomorphs and appropriate data analysis. High-precision dating (14C AMS wiggle-match dating) of the various ACCROTELM peat cores will be worked out in close cooperation with the Centre for Isotope Research of the University of Groningen. The fellow will
be based at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics.

The fellow will have a PhD in palaeoecology and experience in the analysis of macrofossils and microfossils. The fellow should also have experience of interpreting proxy climate signals from palaeoecological data. The ACCROTELM project will run for 36
months and start on 1st April 2003. The salary will be in accordance with the university regulations for academic personnel, and will be in accordance with the experience and quality of the applicant.

Applicants should submit a letter outlining their research interests, curriculum vitae and the names of two referees.
