Dear AQUA members - please note the positive outcomes for these "Fresh
Innovator" finalists, and consider nominating for "Fresh Science" in the
future.

To: Australasian Quaternary Association,

Dear Simon,

I'm writing to brief you on the outcomes of Fresh Innovators, and the call
for nominations for Fresh Science to be held in Melbourne from 16 to 18
August during Science Week.

Innovators and Scientists, keeping it fresh

Fresh Innovators available to talk to organizations

Fresh Science call for nominations open until 9 July

Congratulations to the 16 finalists who were selected for the inaugural
Fresh Innovators 2004.

It was a busy 3 days in Sydney with a number of presentations including a
40-second summary, armchair discussion with ABC pair Paul Willis and Bernie
Hobbs and a 3-minute business pitch to the Australian Technology Park.
Since then some of the participants have appeared on ABC Stateline,
Catalyst, Science Show, the Buzz and elsewhere and we re still issuing
stories.

Thank you to all organisations who nominated early-career innovators for
the program, we now have 16 media and presentation trained innovators who
are available to talk about their inventive work.

They are experienced in talking to a variety of audiences and pitching it
at different levels. There are some terrific stories and innovations.

If you would like one of the innovators to talk to your organisation, be it
as a business pitch, an interesting lunch-time seminar or an inspirational
talk about how to get your ideas off the ground, get in contact with Sarah
Brooker on sarah.brooker at ozemail.com.au or 0413 332 489.

AND

The word is out, its time to pull some more science out of the lab and into
the media spotlight. Yes it s time for Fresh Science 2004.

Thanks to Federal funding through the Department of Education, Science and
Training, interesting stories of science from young researchers will again
be highlighted in the media through the Fresh Science competition, now a
regular feature of National Science Week.

Fresh Science is a national competition to identify young scientists whose
research is of high quality and ripe for publicity. The program provides
them with media training and the opportunity of presenting their work to a
local, national and international audience.

Nominations for Fresh Science 2004 are open until 9 July. Fresh Science
will be held in Melbourne from 16 to 18 August 2004.

More information, selection criteria and nomination forms are online at
www.freshscience.org or contact Sarah Brooker, sarah at freshscience.org or
