Cetacean Research Partnerships Workshop, 2-4 May, Ballina NSW, Australia
First Announcement and Call for Posters
You are invited to attend the National Cetacean Research Partnerships
Workshop in Ballina, Northern NSW from Sunday 2nd to Tuesday 4th May 2004.
This Workshop will bring together organisations and individuals currently
carrying out cetacean research and management in Australian waters, in
order to discuss research needs and priorities for future research.
Presentations by key researchers will provide an overview of current
scientific understanding of cetacean distribution, biology, habitats,
conservation status and threats in Australian waters. The Workshop will
also identify major research needs, research priorities for different
sectors, and the potential for research partnerships to maximise the
benefits from investment in cetacean research. All people and organisations
from the scientific research community, industry, non-government
conservation organisations and State/Territory and Australian government
departments involved with cetacean research and management are invited and
strongly encouraged to attend.
A fully refereed proceedings from the Workshop will be published,
documenting current knowledge of cetacean distribution, biology, ecology
etc. and management issues, based on the invited presentations by key
speakers and their co-authors. In addition, all other attendees are invited
to present a poster for display during the Workshop, and text from these
posters can be submitted for inclusion in the published proceedings, as a
single page extended Abstract. In addition, an updated list of contact
details for people/organisations working on cetacean research and
management in Australia will also be produced.
Further details about the workshop venue, travel, accommodation, presenters
and publication will be provided in a subsequent email.
The workshop is supported and funded by the Australian Government
Department of the Environment and Heritage through the Natural Heritage
Trust, and hosted and organised by the Southern Cross University Whale
Research Centre, Lismore NSW.
