Dear All,
We are now coming close to the AQUA2004 meeting at Cradle Mt and this email
contains some important information that will help you have a hassle free
conference. It is important to remember that this is a "remote" conference
site so you will need to come prepared.
Things to know....
(1) There are no ATM's at Cradle Mountain. You will need cash or card to
buy breakfast/dinner (the meals not supplied in the conference
registration). Those staying in the hotel have breakfast included in their
accommodation fee.
(2) There are limited food options.
Cheapest is to bring your own. Those staying at the cabins can buy basic
food from the Camping ground store (no fresh vegies or fresh meat...they do
have sausages/bacon, tinned and dried food, bread and milk, also they have
beer! etc...). Best to buy fresh food on your way to Cradle. You can use
the bbq/stove facilities at the camping ground.
Next most expensive is to buy takeaway from the nearby Cafe (at the
airstrip 10 min from the camping ground and conference site)...which will
stay open for us until ~7.30pm each day. Takeaway meals cost ~$10.
Most expensive is to eat at the conference centre restaurant (on site) or
at the Cradle Mt Lodge (15 min drive away). Dinner meals go for $20-35 pp.
(3) The climate is unpredictable. It has snowed there today! so expect
cold/wet weather and bring appropriate clothes.
(4) There are over 100 people coming to this conference. Given the high
numbers and busy schedule, please make sure your presentations are short
(~10 slides for a 15 min time slot including questions).
Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting...Cheers, Simon
