Sydney, Australia.

2-year term (with option of extension) : $50,110 - $54,680

Palaeo-climate archive studies with cosmogenic isotopes

An experienced and energetic experimental scientist is sought to conduct
independent and team-based research in the field of paleo-climate
variability related to applications of cosmogenic and stable isotopes
in the study of glacial geochronologies, solar variability and
geomorphology (eg rates of landscape processes, soil production) during the
Quaternary and last glacial cycle. This work will primarily be based on
measurements of C-14, Be-10 and Al-26 at our ANTARES and STAR Accelerator
Mass Spectrometry Facility in projects related to continental and mountain
glacial formations, Antarctic ice cores, ocean and terrestrial sediments. A
suite of chemistry laboratories for AMS sample preparation is also
available.

He or she will be a member of a multi-faceted ANSTO project called CcASH-
Cosmogenic climate Archives in the Southern Hemisphere. This activity is
supported through university collaborations and institutional agreements
and is focussed on applications of cosmogenic radionuclides (such a Be-10,
Al-26, Cl-36 and C-14) to investigate Southern Hemisphere climate
variability recorded in a variety of natural archives. The successful
applicant will be expected to drive their own scientific research program
and participate in other aspects of the project. The position requires
knowledge in the role of the above cosmogenic and stable isotopes (eg d18O,
d13C) and their geochemistry to palaeo-climate studies, experience in
relevant sample preparation techniques and familiarity with experimental
methods in AMS measurements.
