To celebrate Darwin Day the Canberra Sceptics present Professor Colin
Groves from the Australian National University who will discuss Homo
floresiensis, or the “Hobbit”, which caused a sensation when its discovery

anything from an australopithecine to a bird-headed dwarf. What was it
really? And how does it fit into the human tree?

Studio 5.45 pm –

Rock Paintings of the Western Cape, South Africa Free

John Parkington, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Cape Town,
will talk about the meaning of southern African rock paintings and
engravings. Looking closely at the details of the paintings of the western
Cape, and deriving ideas from stories collected by Lucy Lloyd and Wilhelm
Bleek in the 1870s professor Parkington will argue that the paintings are
informed by the expectations and experiences of men and women as they
proceed through their separate but linked life histories.

Studio 6.00 pm –
