Postgraduate: PhD Research Scholarship 2005

SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND MANAGEMENT
SOUTHERN CROSS UNIVERSITY

An exciting opportunity for postgraduate study is available at Southern 
Cross University.  A full 'Australian Postgraduate Award Industry' 
scholarship will allow a student to undertake fundamental research toward a 
PhD in the area of fluvial processes and stream rehabilitation.  Innovative 
approaches to restoring the hydrological integrity and environmental 
sustainability of upper catchment streams are the focus of a large 
collaborative project being conducted on Widden Brook, Upper Hunter Valley, 
set within the rugged northern ranges of the Wollemi National Park, 
NSW.  The areas of research are hydrology, geochemistry, geomorphology and 
aquatic chemistry.

Based at Lismore, the PhD student will work within a multidisciplinary team 
including academic researchers and other postgraduate students from 
Southern Cross University, the Australian National University and the 
University of Newcastle.  The successful applicant will receive an APAI 
award stipend of $24,148 per annum tax exempt for 3 years.

Applicants should have a four year undergraduate degree in a relevant 
discipline (Environmental Science, Geography, Earth Sciences) with a 
minimum Second Class Division 1 Honours, or an equivalent qualification.
