Subject: CCR postdoc opportunity
INTERDISCIPLINARY FELLOW POSITION
University of Wisconsin-Madison
The Bryson Interdisciplinary Climate People and Environment Program is
seeking applications for the position of Interdisciplinary Fellow for a
one-year appointment. The candidate should have a strong background,
including evidence of creativity in research, in one or more of the
following areas: archaeology, geomorphology, ancient history, ecology or
paleoecology, or a physical branch of geography (other than climate).
The Fellow, normally at the postdoctoral level, will be given the
opportunity for intensive study in climatology for one year mentored by
the scientists associated with the Center for Climatic Research, and the
Bryson Interdisciplinary Climate People and Environment Program. The
goal of the appointment is for the Fellow to achieve a degree of
competence in climatology that will allow work at the interface between
archaeology or paleoecology and climatology.
We expect a start date as early as 01/01/06. The stipend will be
$34,000/annual (for postdoctoral fellow appointments). If the
appointment is for a pre-doctoral fellow, the stipend will be comparable
to UW RA appointments.
Applicants should submit a statement of how they see this opportunity
with respect to their careers, appropriate documentation of their
achievements, and three letters of reference. Application may be made
immediately. Review of applicants will continue until the position is
filled.
Applications should be addressed to Sara Hotchkiss, and submitted to:

Background information about the program
Starting with the premise that in order to work at the interfaces of
disciplines, it is necessary for a scholar to be competent at a high
level in at least the two disciplines which are involved, the
Interdisciplinary Fellows Program of the Bryson Interdisciplinary
Climate, People, and Environment Program was conceived. Combining the
facts that most University educational programs are focussed on
disciplines and that few major societal problems lie within the
expertise of a single discipline, this program was conceived as a method
of opening opportunities for truly interdisciplinary work to be advanced
in the sector involving climate, people and the environment. The
concept that creativity in this area is more likely from a broadly based
interdisciplinary individual than from a multi-disciplinary committee is
central to this program.
