Hi Everyone,

The Australasian INTIMATE project stands for the 'INTegration of Ice,
MArine and TErrestrial records of the Last Glacial Maximum and
Termination.' The project aims to integrate data sets from ice core,
marine and land records to produce a series of palaeoenvironmental
maps of the southwest Pacific region for the interval between the
Last Glacial Maximum and the Early Holocene and to study the ice-sea-
atmosphere interactions and feedbacks during the Last Glacial-
Interglacial Transition. This is a core programme of the INQUA
Palaeoclimate Commission and is complementary to another project of
the same name running in the North Atlantic region (http://
www.geog.uu.nl/fg/INTIMATE/). Some members of the Australian and New
Zealand Quaternary community met in 2004 to start the INTIMATE
programme and reports from these can be found at http://
www.aqua.org.au/AQUA/frames_INTIMATE.html and http://
www.paleoclimate.org.nz/intimate_project.html.

Although the project has started, INTIMATE is continuing to roll
forward and anyone who has interests in the above aims is keenly
encouraged to take part. If this sounds of interest and you would
like to be put on the mailing list and/or would like to take an
active part, please don't hesitate to contact myself or Jamie
Shulmeister for further details (james.shulmeister at canterbury.ac.nz).

With best wishes,

Chris

Slartibartfast: Science has achieved some wonderful things of
course, but I'd far rather be happy than right any day
Arthur Dent: And are you?
Slartibartfast: No. Thats where it all falls down of course.
Arthur Dent: Pity. It sounded like quite a good lifestyle otherwise.
