          School of Archaeology

University Lecturership in Scientific and Prehistoric
Archaeology
        in association with Wolfson College

The School of Archaeology proposes to appoint a University Lecturer
in Scientific and Prehistoric Archaeology. The lecturership is
tenable from 1 October 2006 and will be associated with a non-
stipendiary fellowship at Wolfson College <http://
www.wolfson.ox.ac.uk/>. The salary will be according to age on a
scale up to £47,078 per annum.

Applications are sought from archaeologists with a proven record of
research and teaching in fields which have explored the links between
Scientific and Prehistoric Archaeology. The successful candidate will
be expected both to develop a vigorous programme of research that
will contribute to the School’s international research reputation,
and to participate in the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate
teaching programme.

The School of Archaeology at Oxford <http://www.ox.ac.uk/> has three
main elements: scientific archaeology, prehistoric archaeology and
classical archaeology. The holder of the present post must have the
skills to set up joint research and teaching programmes that links
scientific and prehistoric archaeology. We are looking for a
candidate with theoretical interests and methodological skills
relevant to archaeological science and prehistoric archaeology.
Although it seems most likely that the successful applicant will have
a specialism in prehistoric archaeology, outstanding candidates with
interests in other areas of archaeology, if combined with appropriate
scientific expertise, are encouraged to apply. Potential areas of
collaborative work include (but are not restricted to) an
understanding of material culture and materials analysis, or work on
human population histories, health and nutrition. Individuals with
research interests in any relevant area are encouraged to apply.

Further particulars are available from http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/fp/,
also as a PDF document here <http://www.arch.ox.ac.uk/__data/assets/

of Archaeology, 36 Beaumont Street, Oxford, OX1 2PG (email:
administrator at arch.ox.ac.uk <mailto:administrator at arch.ox.ac.uk>).

Applications (eight copies, except from candidates overseas who need
send only one), including a curriculum vitae, a list of principal
publications, and the names of two referees, should be sent to the
Administrator, School of Archaeology, 36 Beaumont Street, Oxford, OX1
2PG, *for receipt not later than 16 May 2006.* Candidates should ask
their referees to send their references to the above address by the

Slartibartfast: Science has achieved some wonderful things of
course, but I'd far rather be happy than right any day
Arthur Dent: And are you?
Slartibartfast: No. Thats where it all falls down of course.
Arthur Dent: Pity. It sounded like quite a good lifestyle otherwise.
