Dear colleagues:

As a part of IGCP-476 activity, Drs. Clift, Zheng, and

myself is convening a special symposium titled gMonsoons and the
Himalaya: tectonics-climate and land-ocean linkages h (SS1-2) in 17th

International Sedimentological Congress [ISC] in Fukuoka Japan, which

will be held from August 27th to September 1st. Registration of ISC
<http://www.isc2006.com/> already started and registration deadline
for field trips, short courses, and workshops is 31st of January, and

deadline for abstract submission is 28th of February. Our symposium
(SS1-2) will be tentatively scheduled on 1st of September so that
participants can move to 4th International Meeting of IGCP-476 which
will be held in Busan, Korea from 3 to 5 of September (tentative).
In the symposium, we hope to update our knowledge on
uplift and erosion histories of Himalaya, Tibet, and Tien Shan, their

relation with monsoon evolution, and its impact on paleoceanography and

sedimentation in continental margin and marginal seas in Asia based on

analyses of terrestrial and marine sedimentary records.

If you are interested in the special symposium and have

topics suitable for our symposium theme, your participation is welcome.

We will also appreciate if you can circulate this information to
your
colleagues who may have their interest in the theme.
In case you will submit the abstract to our special
symposium
SS1-2, please let Tada <ryuji at eps.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp> know about your
submission and titles.

As to subsequent Busan Meeting, its tentative title is

gMonsoon, Tectonics, Paleoclimate, and Paleoceanography in the East
Asia and its Marginal Seas h and will be composed of 3 sessions; S1:
Monsoon and Tectonics: Evolution and Linkage, S2: Monsoon and
Sediments: Land-Sea Interaction, S3: Monsoon and Environment: Past,
Present and Future. We will circulate more information on the Busan
Meeting soon.

Below, I show call for papers mail from 2006 ISC for your

information.

with best wishes,

Ryuji Tada
Co-leader of IGCP-476
