ANSTO’s Institute for Environmental Research is a
multidisciplinary research Institute of
approximately 100 people possessing a broad range
of scientific expertise. The Institute’s goal is
to carry out balanced strategic and applied
research and development, with projects aimed at
applications of nuclear or isotopic science in
the hydro- and geosphere and focussed on
terrestrial, marine and freshwater ecosystems,
atmosphere and climate, paleoclimate and water resources.

We seek a highly motivated experimental scientist
to work as a specialist in Accelerator Mass
Spectrometry. The successful candidate will work
in a team that performs research and development
involving the measurement of long-lived
radioisotopes, including radiocarbon dating,
using a 10 MV Tandem and a 2 MV Tandetron
accelerator.  This research involves interaction
with other ANSTO Institutes, Australian
universities, national and international laboratories.

Following appropriate training, you will:
·         Set up and perform measurements on accelerator systems;
· Assist research scientists in the
design and development of new instrumentation;
·         Maintain existing systems in good working order;
· Become familiar with the basic
scientific aspects of accelerator mass
spectrometry and the measurement of long-lived radioisotopes.

You will have successfully completed a degree in
Physics, Applied Science or related discipline,
and have an excellent academic
record. Experience in operation, design and/or
development of complex laboratory equipment is
essential. An attractive salary package will be
offered depending on qualifications and
experience. To be eligible for engagement,
applicants will require a medical and security
