On behalf of the Organising Committee, I take pleasure in inviting you to attend the next Australian Organic Geochemistry Conference which will be held in Adelaide on September 8-12, 2008.? On this occasion we shall be joining with the International Humic Substances Society and the Natural Organic Matter Interest Group in a combined national conference, the theme of? which is Oil, Soil, Water and Wine.? The venue for our meeting is the spectacular National Wine Centre of Australia (see attachment), part of the University of Adelaide and located close to many of the city's cultural attractions and best restaurants.
If, having read this message, you are interested in coming to Adelaide for AOG/IHSS/NOM 2008, it would help our planning if you could indicate by return email your intention to participate.? Simply hit 'Reply' and enter "Attend OSWW" in the subject line.
Contributions in the general fields of Petroleum Geochemistry, Humic and Other Organic Matter in Soils, Natural Organic Matter in Potable Waters, and Isotope and Environmental Geochemistry will be considered.? The organisers would particularly welcome offers of presentations on the following themes:
Palaeoenvironmental reconstruction
Petroleum characteristion - from source to reservoir
Understanding gas formation
Very old oil
Environmental monitoring
Novel methodologies to characterise OM
Microbes - deep biosphere to soil organic matter
Waste-water recycling
Drinking water treatments
Registration details will be posted soon on the conference website (address to be advised), along with information on hotel and other accommodation options.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is May 31, 2008.? Authors will be notified of abstract acceptance by mid-June.? Registrations are required by July 4, 2008.
This meeting will continue the tradition of previous AOG, AOG-IHSS and AOG-NOM conferences in providing an hospitable forum for student oral and poster presentations.? Corporate sponsorship will be available to help defray the cost of student travel.
Following the conference, authors are invited to submit their papers for publication in a special issue of the international journal Organic Geochemistry.
In addition to the formal scientific program (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) there will be the opportunity to enjoy Adelaide's cultural and culinary heritage.? A field trip that takes in the geology and some of the wineries of the renowned McLaren Vale district is planned for the Friday of the conference.? For those interstate and overseas participants with time to spare before or after the conference, we can recommend visits to Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary, Kangaroo Island, the Flinders Ranges and Arkaroola, not to forget the other famous wine-producing regions of South Australia (viz. the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Limestone Coast? and Coonawarra).
The conference organisers (David McKirdy and Lynn Webster, Organic Geochemistry in Basin Analysis Group, University of Adelaide; Peter Boult, Petroleum and Geothermal? Group, PIRSA; Peter Tingate, Australian School of Petroleum;? Susannah Gallagher, Santos; Chris Chow, Australian Water Quality Centre; and Jeff Baldock, CSIRO Land & Water) look forward to seeing you in Adelaide next year.
Please pass on this information to any of your colleagues missing from the distribution list.
?
Yours sincerely
David McKirdy
