Postdoctoral Researcher Position Regional Climate Change Impacts
The University of Newcastle Research Associates (TUNRA) in
conjunction with the Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment at the
University of Newcastle has a position for a Postdoctoral Climate or
Environmental Scientist available for an immediate start. The
position is located within the Environmental and Climate Change
Research Group, Discipline of Earth Sciences. The project is in
collaboration with the Hunter and Central Coast Regional
Environmental Management Strategy (HCCREMS) and is funded by a NSW
Government Greenhouse Action Grant.
The project includes a study of the natural climate variability, and
the regional climate change impacts to the year 2100 of the NSW
region comprising, the Central Coast, Hunter Valley and Lower North
Coast regions. The position has an initial duration of 15 months with
the possibility of extension depending on funding.
The successful applicant will work on the statistical analysis of
regional climate and natural resources data, and global climate
modeling data, and work within a team studying the range of climate
change impacts on key resources and land uses within the region. The
role also requires participation in stakeholder forums as well
investigating key indices for the assessment of climate change
impacts and associated risk analysis.
The successful applicant must have received a Ph.D. within the last 5
years, or expect to complete the degree by January, 2008. Experience
with climatology, climate change, and/or climate modeling is sought
and an understanding of climate change impacts. Applicants with a
background in data analysis and statistics will also be considered.
It is essential that applicants have experience using MATLAB for data
analysis and visualisation, and ARC-GIS and MAPINFO software.
