Dear Colleagues,

Our apologies for cross-posting. We would like to invite you and your
collaborators to contribute to the following session on "Isotopic and
geochemical insights into the rates and mechanisms of erosion and
weathering" that will be held at the 2008 Goldschmidt Conference in
Vancouver, Canada, 13-18 July. We hope that this session will inspire a
dialog between researchers using isotopic geochemistry to investigate how
erosion and weathering processes are linked to climate, tectonics and human
activity.

Session 16a: Isotopic and geochemical insights into the rates and mechanisms
of erosion and weathering
Convenors: Anthony Dosseto, Gavin Foster, Kate Maher, Joerg Schaefer
    Keynote speaker: Bernard Bourdon (ETH)

A number of new isotopic (e.g. U-series, 10Be, 26Al, Pb, Nd, Hf, B, Sr, Mg,
Li, Ca) and geochemical tools can provide fresh insights into how weathering
and erosion are linked to climate, tectonics and human activity. This
session aims to present the latest advances in this field, with a focus on
how the rates of weathering and erosion processes and the coupling between
soil production and sediment transport are influenced by climate
variability, tectonic activity and human disturbance.
