Laboratory Technician ? Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory
A permanent full-time position is available in the Rafter Radiocarbon Lab
for a technician to provide analytical support in the laboratory. The work
involves the physical and chemical preparation of samples submitted for
radiocarbon dating.
The successful candidate for this job will have
- a tertiary qualification, preferably in chemistry or geochemistry;
- practical knowledge of and experience in laboratory equipment and
procedures, and in solving technical problems;
- demonstrated ability to work reliably and to adhere to strict
procedures;
- meticulous attention to detail, including clear and accurate record
keeping;
- good communication and computer skills; familiarity with PC software
- the ability to work well in a team and to cooperate with colleagues in
helping the laboratory to fulfil its functions in research and commercial
activities.
The Rafter Radiocarbon Lab is part of the National Isotope Centre, a
division of GNS Science, the premier source of applied isotope science
capability in New Zealand. GNS Science is a Crown Research Institute (CRI)
owned by the New Zealand Government and is New Zealand's largest
geological science organisation. It provides geological and geophysical
research and consultancy services to government and industry within New
Zealand and overseas.
