Subject: Palaeoclimate workshop
Call for abstracts for the INTIMATE 10 high precision palaeoclimate
workshop 19th to the 22nd September.
Integration of Ice Core, Marine and Terrestrial Records (INTIMATE)
Workshop
September 19th - 22nd, 2008
Oxford, United Kingdom
High Precision Correlation Meeting
INTIMATE 10 Oxford, 19th to 22nd September 2008.
Abstracts for oral presentations are now sought for the 10th workshop of
the Integration of Ice Core, Marine and Terrestrial Records (INTIMATE)
group. The theme of the meeting is High Precision Correlation of
Palaeoclimate Records. http://www.rlaha.ox.ac.uk/INTIMATE/intimate.html
Day 1: Saturday 20th September -Chaired by Christopher Bronk Ramsey,
this session will be devoted to the traditional areas of INTIMATE
research, focusing on high precision correlation of records, spanning
the Last Glacial-Interglacial Transition (LGIT), including the period
from the end of the LGM and covering the climate oscillations in the
early Holocene.
Day 2: Sunday 21st September -Chaired by Chris Turney, this session aims
to expand the chronological focus and geographical coverage of INTIMATE,
as well as to consider new methodologies. It will include presentation
of important recent developments, such as new calibration data and new
high-precision records. The key point of this day is how to achieve high
precision correlation of different types of record, over the last 50,000
years, covering wide-spread geographical locations.
Each day will have a small number of invited presentations to set the
tone. The main business of the workshop will then consist of short
talks, followed by focussed breakout workshops. We aim that the meeting
should produce concrete results that can go into one or more journal
special issues.
Abstract Submission
We now seek short abstracts (300 words) for oral presentations. Papers
should fall broadly within the following themes: 1. Climate Proxies, 2.
High precision Age Modelling, 3. Highly Resolved Records and 4. Time
equivalent methods. We hope to have presentations from the marine
terrestrial and ice core community in all these areas. Abstracts for
oral presentations should be sent to Simon Blockley (
simon.blockley at rlaha.ox.ac.uk). These will then be considered by a
science committee. The deadline for abstracts is the 13th June. We will
notify speakers by the 4th of July. The final deadline for registration
for the INTIMATE 10 workshop (Limited to 50) is the 11th of July. Please
note acceptance to speak does not count as formal pre-registration.
Breakout Sessions
These are currently being organised but will follow the main themes
outlined above. Each breakout session is aimed at ice, marine and
terrestrial records and we plan to get session leaders from each of
these areas. Although these are not finalised we will have breakouts on
areas such as improved tephra correlation, Bayesian age modelling
methods, and improved statistical analysis of annual records. Session
suggestions are welcome although we may not be able to accommodate all
proposals.
