Dear Colleagues,

I anticipate holding the 3rd Neogene Polar Diatom Taxonomy Workshop at
Macquarie University, Sydney, 4-8th July, 2011.

This relaxed, hands/eyes on, week-long workshop is focused on teaching
and learning taxonomy a multitude of polar diatom species from those
actively working in the field (e.g. ANDRILL, IODP, Subantarctic Islands,
Open Ocean, sea ice and Antarctic coastal environments. Previous reports
on the fun had at earlier meeting can be found in :

Asmmy, P., 2008. Report - 2nd Neogene Polar Marine Diatom Workshop,
4-10th August 2007, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA, or
alternatively Mutual learning between a plankton ecologist and
micropalaeontologists. Diatom Research 23 (1), 263-265.

Armand, L.K., 2006. Report. Neogene Polar Marine Diatom Workshop, 1-6th
August 2005, Yamagata, Japan. Diatom Research 21 (1), 227-228.

We welcome participation from students, active researchers and retired
from work (not life) sorts with an interest in passing on knowledge of
their favourite diatoms species/polar habitat.

At this stage we are looking to hear from "potential" participants to
get an idea of accommodation needs. We have a fully equipped brand new
microscopy teaching laboratory here, with several screens to put up
anything interesting that is under any microscope, so no one needs to
bring any hardware.

This message is also a reminder to add the event into your (and
students) future plans and funding requests (including passports and visas).

Please drop me a line if you think you'd be interested in attending so I
can ensure you are on future e-mail messages.

Kind regards,
Leanne Armand (on behalf of the organising committee Amy Leventer, Ric
Jordan, David Harwood and Ryzard Ligowski).
