Dear Listmembers,

NEW WORKING GROUP: Development of Isotopic Proxies for Palaeoenvironmental Interpretation: A Carbon Perspective (DIPPI-C)

We are delighted to announce the launch of a new inter-disciplinary working group focused on the measurement and interpretation of organic and inorganic carbon in the environment. We bring together palaeoclimatologists, geochemists, biochemists, plant physiologists, ecologists, soil scientists, carbon capture and storage researchers and archaeologists that utilise bulk and compound specific carbon isotopes, and biomarker distributions to develop a timely and rigorous inter-disciplinary review of the science underpinning these molecular and isotopic proxies in the environment.

You can find out more information at www.dippi-c.org<http://www.dippi-c.org/> , including a sign-up to our mailing list and discussion forum on the homepage to keep up to date with DIPPI-C activities and forthcoming meetings/conference attendance. We are keen to build an inter-disciplinary database of publications on carbon in the environment, across all spatial and temporal scales (currently under development). If you have any suggestions of publications we can list here, in addition to those already listed, or you would like to list your own publications, please check our "publications" page for further details on how to do so.

Forthcoming Events

December 2011

AGU 2011 Fall Meeting session: DIPPI-C steering group convening sessions B13K, B14D and B21E, Monday 5th December and Tuesday 6th December.

Session Title: Modern insights into the palaeo-carbon cycle: A δ13C and biomarker perspective I-III. Keynotes: Professor Philip Meyers (Michigan University, USA); Professor Kliti Grice (Curtin University, Australia); Dr Jennifer Dungait (Rothamstead, UK) and Professor Howard Griffiths (Cambridge University, UK).

The "official launch" drop-in meeting takes place at this years AGU Fall Meeting, in San Francisco (Marriott Hotel, 55 Fourth Street, Room Sierra B, Thursday 8th December at 10am).

May 2012

The first meeting of DIPPI-C will take place on 8th - 10th May 2012, Durham University UK: which registration (which is free, but with limited numbers) will open in January 2012 (details are available on our website). We are delighted to confirm the following speakers for our Durham Meeting (with more to come!): Prof Philip Meyers (Michigan University, USA), Dr. Richard Pancost (Bristol University, UK); Dr. Charlotte Bryant (SUERC NERC Radiocarbon Laboratory, UK); Dr. Johan Weijers (Utrecht University, The Netherlands).

We look forward to your participation in the coming months and years!

All the best,
