*‘Inspiring Connections’*
*Macquarie** University, Sydney*
*2-4 July, 2012*
The Department of Environment and Geography, Macquarie University, invites
you to attend the 2012 Institute of Australian Geographers Conference in
Sydney.
Macquarie University is located in north-west Sydney just 30 minutes from
the centre of Sydney. The campus is well-serviced by a direct train service
from the city and bus services. Conference participants can choose local
accommodation options close to the campus or choose from convenient city
locations and use public transport to reach the conference venues on the
Macquarie University campus.
The Macquarie University campus is set on 126 hectares. Facilities on the
campus include a recently-completed ‘state-of-the-art’ library, aquatic
centre and gymnasium, a Vacation Care program, art gallery and accessible
wi-fi throughout the conference venue.
Our conference theme *‘Inspiring Connections’* encourages participants to
focus on both existing connections that inspire their work, and the ways in
which geographical research, education and engagement inspires new
connections of value to society and the planet.
The conference program will include opportunities to make connections
between geography and education (encouraging wide participation from
secondary geography teachers as well as education-focused sessions),
geography and the arts (with keynote performances and events) and geography
and others (with an invitation for sessions and papers that step outside
the conventional frames of academic geography to consider connections
across boundaries in various ways).
IAG Study Groups are encouraged to submit proposals for themed sessions,
and individuals and groups are also encouraged to put forward session
proposals around appropriate themes. Session organizers should ensure that
proposals include a clear statement of the theme, and estimate of the
number of separate sessions required (4 papers per session) and any
suggestions for appropriate keynote speakers to include in the program.
The conference website will be available soon and will include a link for
registration and regular updates.
*Registrations will open on March 1, 2012*.
*The call for themed sessions is now open*, due to Kristian Ruming (
kristian.ruming at mq.edu.au) by *February 15, 2012*.
We look forward to welcoming you to IAG2012 at MQ
