Dear organic geochemists and environmental chemists,
We would like to draw your attention to a session on Antarctic marine
biogeochemistry that Leanne Armand and I are co-organising at the
upcoming 34th International Geological Congress (IGC) in Brisbane,
Australia, 5-10th August 2012.
You can submit abstracts (by 17th Feb) here:

26.2 Antarctic marine biogeochemistry
Simon GEORGE simon.george at mq.edu.au (Australia) and Leanne ARMAND
(Australia)
*Marine sediments around Antarctica are an important repository of
knowledge about biogeochemical and physical processes over the last 30
million years. Sediments contain proxies that can be related to
ocean temperature fluctuations, sea-ice cover, and global climate
change. Biomarkers in the sediments record variations over time of life in
the water column and in the sediments, as well as several
degradative pathways in the shallower sediments. Some sediments are
polluted by anthropogenic fossil fuel spills, the depletion of which, with
time, is complex and occurs by multiple processes. This Symposium will seek
to explore the full range of biogeochemistry that is being applied
in Antarctic marine sediments.*
Keynote speaker: Simon BRASSELL (USA)

We encourage your participation in this and the many other sessions on just
about every conceivable aspect of geoscience:

Do come, the weather in Brisbane in August is lovely and the conference
should be excellent!
Regards,
Simon (and Leanne)
