We are seeking expressions of interest from potential PhD students who
would like to be part of an ARC Linkage Project (LP120200626) "Landscape
evolution, environmental change and human occupation history of Lake
George -- an outstanding natural archive", beginning in early 2013.
Lake George contains the longest continuous sedimentary record of any
lake in Australia and has a long, unresolved human occupation history.
However, while the lake was well studied 30 to 40 years ago, new
techniques (particularly new and improved dating methods), more than
justify a major new study to re-examine the sedimentary, climatic,
hydrological and archaeological history of the area.
Given the multidisciplinary nature of the project, we can accommodate
student interests across a range of disciplines, including geology,
geophysics, geochemistry, hydrology, palynology, archaeology,
geomorphology and geochronology.
If you would like to undertake a PhD as part of a great
multidisciplinary team, based at ANU, and you have, or expect to have, a
first class honours degree or equivalent, please contact me for further
details. Email: brad.pillans at anu.edu.au <mailto:brad.pillans at anu.edu.au>
