Dear list members:

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: "Development of Isotopic Proxies for Palaeoenvironmental Interpretation: A Carbon Perspective" (DIPPI-C) 2nd Workshop.

Location: Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Palisades, New York, USA

Dates: 20th - 22nd August 2013

Abstract Deadline: 15th July 2013

We are delighted to announce the opening of registration and abstract submissions for the 2nd DIPPI-C workshop, hosted by Dr. Jon Nichols at LDEO, New York, USA. This workshop follows on from our successful 1st workshop in Durham, UK (May 2012) and sessions at AGU Fall Meetings in 2011 and 2012. Places are limited, so please get your abstract in as quickly as possible as we are operating on a first come first serve basis.

Invited speakers

Prof. Wally Broecker (LDEO, USA)

Prof. Bob Sterner (University of Minnesota, USA)

Prof. Yongsong Huang (Brown University, USA)

Dr. Morgan Schaller (Brown University, USA)

Scientific Programme

The Scientific programme has not been finalised yet. However, it will comprise of a series of talks, poster session, a speed dating session and discussion groups on important questions raised by attendees and DIPPI themes. A finalised programme will be released in due course (a few weeks before the workshop).

Registration and abstract submission

Again, we are delighted to announce that registration and abstract submission are FREE for this workshop! The registration and abstract submission form can be found at www.dippi-c.org<http://www.dippi-c.org>, under meetings and 2nd workshop. Spaces are limited, and are going on a first come, first serve basis. Don't forget to note your key issue/question for the discussion!

Please send completed forms to dippi.carbon at gmail.com<mailto:dippi.carbon at gmail.com>

DIPPI-C description and workshop purpose

DIPPI-C is an inter-disciplinary working group, with a specific focus of understanding environmental processes from biological productivity through to palaeoenvironmental interpretations using carbon isotopes (bulk and compound specific) and biomarker distributions, at a range of spatial and temporal scales. The overarching aim is to develop a state of the art understanding of the inter-disciplinary science on the C cycle and what the outstanding issues are. This requires input from a variety of fields, and is a long-term project aimed at initially synthesizing the inter-disciplinary understanding and defining research projects and objectives to fill emergent gaps.

A key way of achieving this objective is through holding international, inter-disciplinary workshops, alongside interaction through our mailing list. Our 2nd workshop is another step in the right direction.

G-Cubed special theme

Associated with the DIPPI-C working group is a special theme in the AGU and Geochemical Society Journal Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems (G-Cubed) which is currently open for manuscript submission for research related to this workshop (i.e. C cycle processes at a range of spatial and temporal scales using organic and inorganic carbon geochemistry)[for more info - http://www.agu.org/journals/gc/theme.shtml?collectionCode=CARBON1&journalCode=GC]. We encourage you to consider submitting your carbon orientated research to our theme!

Please feel free to circulate this to colleagues who may be interested in attending, or following us on Facebook and Twitter, which will host live updates from the workshop!

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about the workshop or DIPPI-C.

We look forward to seeing you in New York!

All the best,

Jon and Brodie
