We invite submissions to the following session at the Australian
Meteorological and Oceanographic Society National Conference 2014, to be
held in beautiful Hobart, Tasmania, Australia from 12-14 February 2014.

High-resolution records of past climate: Insights into past and future
climate variability

Reconstructions of past climate with a high temporal resolution provide
valuable insights into natural climate variability, including modes such
as El Niño-Southern Oscillation and the Southern Annular Mode. They also
enable us to study the teleconnections between these modes and the climate
of Australia and, in particular, to study the stability of these
teleconnections over time.

The information provided by high-resolution palaeoclimate records is
essential to detect and attribute anthropogenic influences on variability
within the climate system, as well as to constrain and evaluate the models
that are used to project future climate variability and change.
High-resolution palaeoclimate research is therefore a critical component
of climate system science, and is directly relevant to questions of
climate change adaptation and mitigation.

This session welcomes presentations related to all aspects of past climate
variability. Any time period may be considered, including the last 2,000
years, the Holocene and the Last Glacial Maximum. Presentations are
encouraged on high-resolution palaeoclimate records, climate modelling,
data-model integration and the use of palaeoclimate reconstructions to
constrain projections of future climate variability.
