Dear colleagues,
I would like to bring to your attention a session we are convening for the
upcoming XIX INQUA Congress to be held in Nagoya, Japan from the 27th of
July 2nd of August, 2015 entitled:
Late Pleistocene environments, population and settlement dynamics in
southern Africa (
<http://convention.jtbcom.co.jp/inqua2015/session/h01.html> H01)
The late Pleistocene in Southern Africa encompasses the later Middle Stone
Age and the transition to the earlier Later Stone Age. Intensive recent
research in this period has followed key improvements in chronometric
techniques and discoveries of early complex technologies and symbolic items.
This research has improved the density and resolution of archaeological data
to the extent that questions about the relationship between past
environments, regional occupational dynamics, and spheres of population
interaction can profitably be asked. Here we invite researchers to present
the results of new archaeological and palaeoenvironmental work, or new
regional syntheses that draw together available data from multiple sites.
The session objective is to develop a picture of the human occupational
history of southern Africa and its responsiveness to spatial and temporal
environmental variability, with the ultimate aim of understanding the
contexts and controls on the appearance of complexity in the archaeological
record.
Please contact one of the conveners if you require further information about
this session, or simply go to the INQUA website and submit your abstract.
Abstracts can be submitted online before December 20, 2014 at:
