Dear friends

The 13th Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) will be held in Beijing between 31 July and 05 August 2016.

This is a call for contributions to session IG03, titled: Advances in Geochronology - Shedding New Light on Earth Surface Processes and The Quaternary Environment

Session abstract:
Earth surface landscapes evolve as a result of complex interactions of both exogenic and endogenic processes. Understanding dimensions and timescales over which these processes operate is important in light of potential feedbacks between tectonic activity, structural inheritance, climate change and human impacts. The last decade has seen a remarkable increase in the capabilities, proficiencies and applications of diverse geochronological and geochemical techniques, such as in-situ cosmogenic radionuclides (10Be, 26Al, 36Cl), uranium-series isotopes, radiocarbon AMS dating, and optical stimulated luminescence, to provide quantitative measures of the rates of geomorphic processes acting over a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. In particular these specialised techniques, often coupled with stable isotope proxy-based paleo-climate and paleo-environmental reconstructions, are emerging as powerful diagnostic and quantitative tools revolutionising Quaternary and Holocene research. Further, these tools are also beginning to play important roles in Asian geoscience, including those focusing on climate change, landscape evolution and environmental studies. We invite contributions applied to the greater Asian region addressing questions pertinent to surface processes and their interactions, including, but not limited to, spatial and temporal patterns of denudation, sediment transport and storage dynamics, coastal margin management, tectonic versus climatic impacts, glacial chronologies and general landscape change processes.
