Dear AQUA List,
I am trying to identify microscopic organic remains sourced from sediments in a northern New Zealand lake. The unidentifed specimen is indiacted on the attached pollen slides. So far the consensus is that this specimen is algal.
We are reaching out further with the hope that someone inthe AQUA community can identify this specimen.
The attached photos were taken on my microscope using a 40x and 100x (oil) objective lens. I've attached multiple photos (.jpg files), the photos with -14 and -46 at the end were taken using the 40x lens, the rest are taken with the 100x lens.
A little bit more information with regards to the ages from the lake core sediments:
- the specimen are high in concentration from the early 1900s to present day
- first appears at very low concentrations at approximately 1145 cal. BP, remaining at a low density until the early 1900s.
Kind Regards,
Amber Ditchfield
