Dear AQUA List

Two photos have been attached to this email of the unidentified microscopic
specimen and were taken on my microscope using a 100x (oil) objective lens.
More photos are available if requested, including two photos using a 40x
objective lens and four more using a 100 x (oil) objective lens.

The information below is from the email sent earlier last week:

I am trying to identify microscopic organic remains sourced from sediments
in a northern New Zealand lake. The unidentifed specimen is indiacted on
the attached pollen slides. So far the consensus is that this specimen is
algal.
We are reaching out further with the hope that someone inthe AQUA community
can identify this specimen.

A little bit more information with regards to the ages from the lake core
sediments:
- the specimen are high in concentration from the early 1900s to present day
- first appears at very low concentrations at approximately 1145 cal. BP,
remaining at a low density until the early 1900s.

Also the microscopic slides were stained with a fuchsin stain.

Kind Regards,
Amber Ditchfield
