Hello AQUA folk.

On behalf of the organising committee for the 2020 AQUA meeting, I am very pleased to announce that we have a date for you to put in your calendars and a venue so you can start planning your trip.

The date will be Monday 20th to Friday 24th of July, and the location will be Atherton, far north Queensland.

The Atherton tablelands have, of course, been the location of some iconic Quaternary studies, and this meeting will be an opportunity to acknowledge these contributions. It is also a great opportunity to escape the cool southern winters for the dry season tropics.

The venue for the conference will be the function room of The Atherton Hotel. The hotel is in the centre of the Atherton metropolis, close to all accommodation and entertainment options. It also has three bars to retire to if all the science talk has made you thirsty, or to facilitate even more talk.

In addition to all that, The Atherton Hotel also offers some accommodation options and they have kindly offered reduced rates of $95/night/room (for up to 2 people) for conference attendees. This is a generous $25/night discount, and it also includes breakfast. To take advantage of this excellent opportunity, contact Julie Reedy (07) 4091 7611 and state that you are attending the AQUA Conference. But be quick! There are only 18 rooms available.

If you miss out on those rooms, don’t fear. Numerous other accommodation options are available, with several hotels and B&Bs, two nearby caravan parks that offer a variety of options, and a backpackers hostel among other possibilities. However, July is peak tourist season, so early bookings are advisable.

Further details will follow, but for now, block out July 20–24 in your calendar and we look forward to seeing you all in Atherton for the next gathering of this wonderful community.

Cheers for now,

Cam

(on behalf of all those on the organising committee)
