[Aqualist] AQUA2020 meeting – update

Dear AQUA Community



As members of the organising committee for the Atherton AQUA conference, we are writing to you in the light of the rapidly evolving situation in relation to Covid-19 (aka Coronavirus). It appears that it is very difficult to predict what the situation will be by the time we reach July.



Our ability to run the conference will be dependent on numerous factors outside our control, including the advice of the Australian and New Zealand governments, the decisions and policies of individual Universities and institutions, and the decisions of delegates about whether to attend or not. Such uncertainties make planning the event, and planning to attend as a delegate, very difficult.



In light of all this;…

  *   We will continue to prepare to host the conference, though would like to stress to potential delegates that we may need to cancel the conference
  *   We are meeting with the AQUA executive next week to discuss the issues and will send an update following that meeting
  *   We will not be opening the website for conference registration at this stage.
  *   Although we are accepting abstract submissions, please hold off on submitting your abstract until further notice.
  *   If it is necessary to cancel the conference, we will investigate various other options, including hosting the conference as a virtual conference or postponing until next year. We will provide updates on this shortly.
  *   Please keep an eye out for updates via AQUAlist emails and the AQUA Facebook page.



We sincerely hope that we will not need to cancel the conference and I would like to acknowledge all the hard work done by other members of the organising committee thus far.



We will be in touch again as soon as any decisions are made. In the meantime, keep washing those hands.
