Dear AQUA community,
Today, members of the organising committee for the AQUA2020 meeting met with the AQUA executive committee to discuss the future of the conference in light of the Covid-19 virus.
The unanimous decision of both groups was that the current travel restrictions, health concerns, and general uncertainties surrounding Covid-19 means that it is simply not possible to hold the AQUA conference in Atherton this July. The idea of replacing an ‘in-person’ conference with a ‘virtual’ one was investigated, but it was decided that this was not viable for a number of reasons. As such, the decision was made to postpone the conference until 2021.
Naturally, we are all disappointed with this outcome. A lot of time and effort has gone into planning the meeting, and I would like to acknowledge all the hard work undertaken thus far by the organising committee – Cassie Rowe, Rebecca Hamilton, Heather Haines, Kelsie Long, Haidee Cadd, Michael-Shawn Fletcher and Patrick Moss.
For now though, the plan is to reconvene in Atherton in the dry season of 2021. When a suitable date is decided upon, announcements will be made via the usual channels.
Until then, we wish good health to you and yours.
Regards,
Cameron Barr, on behalf of the organising committee.
