PhD positions in Australian Quaternary Sciences, Palaeoenvironments and Archaeology

Within the framework of the recently financed ARC Discovery Project “Environmental and cultural change along the Central Murray River” we are looking for enthusiastic students to commence the following PhD projects at the Universities of Melbourne, La Trobe and Wollongong in 2021:

PhD Project 1: Riverine palaeoenvironments along the Central Murray river over the last glacial cycle (https://geography.unimelb.edu.au/research/phd-projects)

PhD Project 2: Holocene riverine environments along the Central Murray river (https://scholars.uow.edu.au/display/sam_marx#supervision)

PhD Project 3: Late Quaternary environmental change and seasonal resource use along the Central Murray river using shell midden sclerochronology (https://geography.unimelb.edu.au/research/phd-projects#11)

PhD Project 4: Resource extraction and transport from Berribee Silcrete Quarry, northwest Victoria (https://www.latrobe.edu.au/research/future/costs-scholarships/graduate-research-scholarships-available-projects/project-based-scholarships)

The successful candidates should hold an Honours or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and should have a keen interest and preferably some experience in palaeoenvironmental, geomorphic and/or archaeological field work. Projects 1-3 will be supported by full UoM and UoW graduate student scholarships that interested candidates will need to successfully apply for in order to be eligible. PhD project 4 is covered by a La Trobe Graduate Research Scholarship. It is possible to apply for multiple projects; please indicate your preferences in your application. We explicitly encourage female and Aboriginal candidates to apply.
