Hello AQUAlisters,

If you've ever wondered how to make top-notch age-depth models from a mixture of Pb-210 and C-14 dates, please join the upcoming rPlum workshops on Zoom. Presented by Dr Marco Antonio Aquino Lopez, creator of the rPlum package, the three 2-hr sessions will run on successive Tuesdays in August (10th, 17th and 24th) from 9:30-11:30am. You can register for all three or individual sessions using the link below.

Hope to see you there!

Larissa Schneider, Simon Connor and Kelsie Long (workshop facilitators)

About the workshop

This workshop introduces participants to the new R-Package, PLUM, a novel approach to age-depth modelling that uses Bayesian statistics to reconstruct accumulation histories for 210Pb-dated deposits using prior information. It can combine 210Pb, radiocarbon, and other dates in the chronologies.

The workshop will be presented by Dr Marco Antonio Aquino Lopez (from CIMAT- Mexico) who developed the rplum package.

It will be run over three morning sessions (see below), and participants can choose to attend just one or all the three sessions.

On Days 1 and 2, Marco will show participants how to run rplum using existing case studies to construct age-depth models.

Day 3 will be devoted to Q&A.

This workshop is designed for Quaternary researchers in Australia and New Zealand, but will be open to other participants if places are available. Participants will leave the workshop with the ability to run Bayesian age-depth models independently on their own sediment records.

Important note: Participants are expected to know the basics of R and have R and rplum installed in their computers, as the workshop will go straight to running the rplum package. Make sure you know enough about R and installing R packages beforehand so you can get the most out of this workshop.

This event is promoted by the ANU School of Culture, History & Language.

The workshop will be run online (via Zoom) over three Tuesdays (10th, 17th and 24th August) from 9:30am to 11:30am Canberra time (GMT +10).
