[Aqualist] PhD project - microfossil study of the Montebello Is.

Some of you may have seen news yesterday of new research on the Montebello Is.: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-22/montebellos-nucelar-fallout-research/13260242. Related to this, Ingrid Ward (UWA) is seeking an enthusiastic student for a project involving the study of microfossils from the sediments collected from the Montebello Is.



Project 1: Palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of early coastal contexts off NW Australia using microfossils

Occupants of the Barrow and Montebello Island complex would have experienced significant change in environment with post-glacial sea level rise, leading up to abandonment of these islands around 7000 years ago. The project will use modern and ancient foraminiferal records from the Montebello and Barrow Islands to help characterise the changing coastal environment over this period.  Potential also exists to compare these records with those from occupation records within Boodie Cave, Noala Cave and Haynes Cave.
