Fully-funded PhD opportunity
A great opportunity to work on the palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of Amanzi Springs – one of only two sites in Africa with preserved wood in association with Early Stone Age archaeology https://www.archaeomagnetism.com/amanzi-springs-acheulian-site-south-africa
The PhD will be based at La Trobe University’s Melbourne campus, within the Archaeology Department’s Palaeo Labs, and will use a range of techniques including (but not limited to) pollen, macrofossil and charcoal analyses to reconstruct the site’s environment. We are a team of active international researchers, with collaborators at institutions across the globe; the Palaeo Labs are a vibrant research environment with a supportive team of graduate researchers, lab tech, academics and undergraduates doing projects on a range of topics.
The candidate will ideally start in early 2022, so that you can participate in field work planned for later in the year. There is also scope for training in additional techniques with collaborators at other international institutions. Experience in one or more palaeoenvironmental reconstruction techniques is desired, but not essential as training will be provided.
