Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to advertise a cotutelle PhD position in paleoclimatology to start in October 2024 as part of the Australia-France Network of Doctoral Excellence (AUFRANDE, https://aufrande.eu/ ). AUFRANDE is a unique PhD training program co-funded by the European Union bringing together 37 research centres in France and Australia. It provides a unique opportunity for students to be enrolled in doctoral programs at two entities in France and Australia, with the chance to be awarded dual doctorates.
The research topic covered by our PhD position is related to Millennial-to-orbital-scale climate changes over the past 2 Ma reconstructed from natural archives<https://aufrande.eu/position/dc7/>
Within this research topic, three potential projects are proposed:
-Project 1: Climate and carbon cycle interactions across the Mid-Pleistocene Transition.
-Project 2: Global and regional climate & drivers at millennial-to orbital scale during a past warm period (Marine Isotopic Stage 11).
-Project 3: Optimal dating of Antarctic deep ice cores & millennial-scale regional climatic changes over the last glacial-interglacial cycle .
The full description of the three potential projects is attached. The applicants have to choose one project for their application.
The successful candidate will be based at the Institute of Environmental Geosciences<https://www.ige-grenoble.fr/?lang=en> (joint research unit of CNRS, Grenoble Alpes University, INRAE, Grenoble INP and IRD, FR) for ~ 2 years and will spend one year in Australia where they will be hosted at the University of Tasmania<https://www.imas.utas.edu.au/> and the Australian Antarctic Division<https://www.antarctica.gov.au/science/climate-processes-and-change/antarctic-palaeoclimate/million-year-ice-core/> (Hobart, AU).
We are looking for a student highly motivated by the study of paleoclimate with a strong background in physics and/or geosciences and with good programming skills (e.g., Python). A good written and spoken English is required. This PhD position requires also the ability to work as part of a team, and especially to collaborate with international teams.
More information regarding the elligibility criteria and on how to apply can be found here:
https://aufrande.eu/recruitment/how-to-apply/
Deadline for application is January 24th, 2024.
Please, forward this announcement to students who might be interested in applying.
All the best,
Emilie Capron (UGA), Frederic Parrenin (UGA), Joel Pedro (AAD), Taryn Noble (UTAS) and Andy Menking (UTAS).
