Dear AQUA members,

Here is the first circular for the AQUA 2026 conference in spectacular Sydney, New South Wales on 6-10th July 2026, where the Traditional Custodians are the Gadigal and Bidjigal peoples.
The Conference will be held at the University of New South Wales Kensington Campus, sponsored by the Chronos Radiocarbon Laboratory. The campus is located within an easy 3 km trip to beautiful Coogee beach and accessible from the City of Sydney via light rail or bus. UNSW is also close to Mascot (Sydney) airport with good public transport links.

The conference is planned for a low season of winter to take advantage of accommodation availability in an expensive city, but we recommend booking accommodation early. The weather is expected to be mild with a median of 18°C during the day and a cool 6°C at night so pack appropriately. July is characterised by one of the lowest rainfall totals of just 6 days on average, hence we do envisage a pleasant outlook for all to enjoy.
Abstract submission and registration will open soon. Abstracts will be due by 28th February 2026.

The preliminary schedule includes a pre-conference field trip to Wombeyan Caves and Blue Mountains, followed by an icebreaker on Sunday afternoon. Sessions commence on Monday. The week is proposed to include a mid-conference field trip to Sydney wetlands, an early career researcher event, a late career researcher dinner, a conference dinner, and an AQUA quiz night.

We are calling for session proposals, potential workshops and field trips.

Sincerely,
The Organising Committee
