International Conference - Diplomatic Update
13th - 14th November

National Museum of Australia, Canberra

The need for diplomatic solutions to contemporary problems in world
politics is a matter of urgency. It is widely recognised that the
Asia-Pacific is a region which has many long-standing and evolving
issues that demand immediate and innovative diplomatic responses.
But are regional foreign ministries adapting to these demands, is
regional diplomatic persuasion effective or for that matter
distinctive, and are there actors and networks that can play a
greater role in diplomacy?

The aim of the conference is to examine the above questions with a
view to improving the region's diplomatic resources and responses.
Scholars and diplomats from Australia and regional countries will
present their views about the challenges and possible directions for
diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific, often comparing regional diplomatic
practices with those in other parts of the world.
