'Apropos - Human Rights it Art' Exhibition

* The exhibition includes artwork from the Gembel Collective (East Timor) *

About the Gembel Collective: Street kids, unemployed youth, school &
university students meet, eat, play and make art at their 'headquarters' at
the Borga da Costa Memorial Park in Dili, East Timor. Since 2003, they have
been learning and producing wood cuts, etchings and recycled paper which
they sell to fund their activities and existence on the edge of independent
East Timorese society.

[Note: Borga da Costa (1946 - 1975) is one of the best known poets of
Timor-Leste. He was killed in Dili on the 7th December 1975 by invading
soldiers from the Republic of Indonesia]

FILM SCREENINGS:

RMIT Capital Theatre, Swanston St, Melbourne (on Western side between
Collins & Little Collins Sts)

BACKGROUND - Apropos exhibition: In conjunction with the film screenings for
the Human Rights Arts & Film Festival, this exhibition brings together
international, national and community based artists to explore how
contemporary practice can articulate and illuminate issues of human rights.
