Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA)
AUSTRALIA’S ROLE IN DEMOCRACY PROMOTION
Speakers Include:
The Hon Bob McMullan MP,
Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance
Senator Marise Payne,
Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs
Professor Benjamin Reilly,
Director, Centre for Democratic Institutions
Along with representatives from:
Australian Labor Party; Liberal Party of Australia; Australian Electoral
Commission;
and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Topics to be addressed include:
¨  The aims and objectives of Australian policy in promoting democracy
abroad
¨  Australia’s democracy promotion activities in a comparative context
¨  Activities and approaches of Australian political parties and government
agencies
¨  Operational issues facing different organisations in their activities
¨  Co-ordination among Australian agencies in the field, and challenges for
the future
