*Newton International Fellowships*

This new award scheme is an initiative of the UK’s leading academies -
the British Academy, The Royal Academy of Engineering, and the Royal
Society. The Scheme has been established to select the very best early
stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world and enable them
to work at UK research institutions for a period of two years. The
Scheme covers researchers in all disciplines covered by the three
academies – natural and social sciences, engineering and humanities.
Fifty Fellowships will be awarded each year.

Fellowships are tenable for two years, and provide (per annum) £24,000
for subsistence and £8,000 for research expenses. A one-off relocation
allowance of £2,000 is also payable.

Applicants should have completed a PhD and have up to six years’
postdoctoral experience, or equivalent experience at a comparable level.
(Applicants who are still working on a PhD must have the PhD completed
before the start date of the Fellowship.)

Applicants should be working outside the UK and should not hold UK
citizenship at the time of application. Researchers al ready based in
the UK are not eligible to apply. Contact between the Sponsor and
Applicant prior to the application is essential. This contact should
lead to a clearly defined and mutually-beneficial research project proposal.

The closing date for the first round of applications is *4 August 2008*.
Results are expected on 4 November 2008. Fellowships must start before
31 March 2009.
