RESEARCH ON PUBLIC PERCEPTIONS OF WOMEN AS LEADERS IN TIMOR LESTE

with International Women’s Development Agency
Research Leader: Sara Niner (Anthropology-SoSS)
The project will investigate the cultural, social and historical factors affecting public decision-making in voting and the perceptions of candidates legitimacy and capacity to lead so understanding can be built to foster women’s leadership in the public eye. Women’s Action for Voice and Empowerment (WAVE) is a ground-breaking civil and political participation program that brings together and supports women, organisations and movements in Asia and the Pacific region to increase the representation of women in diverse leadership positions. This project will inform the International Women’s Development Agency WAVE program to effectively strengthen Timorese women’s meaningful political participation, leadership and advocacy for the issues that are important to them.
